Cupcakes and Colt's Jerseys

Go Colt's Weekend

HONK...If you love the Colts!

Colt's Cookie Decorating

Watching that scrolling screen flash each school delay and cancellation, I couldn't help but get that child-like giddy feeling. I don't know who was more excited...the kids or me! A free day to catch up on school work, house work, and good, spontaneous fun!

Another fun weekend! It all started with Friday night pizza with the Hoags and a little Wii competition. Saturday morning was the boys' first basketball game. Each one scored! So fun to see their excitement. Miss Amaya escaped from me once and ran out onto the court to grab Daddy's leg. I was mortified..the crowd thought it was hilarious!

Saturday afternoon we made Colt's cookies and signs to put out on the driveway...."Honk if you Love the Colts." The kids got a kick out of hearing the horns blow in support. A little swimming in the afternoon before heading to the Pope's for a pre-game party. My good friend, Traci, and her daughter came for the weekend. So much fun watching all the kids together!

I received great news on Wednesday afternoon. I went for my follow-up appointment with the surgeon and have been released from most of my restrictions. And that horrible back brace....I only have to wear it in ice/snow. The craziest part was that I now have to carry this credit-card type picture of my back with the surgeon's signature and my SS# on it for going through metal detectors. Now that was a new one for me!

Looking forward to the Colt's game on Sunday! Go Blue........

Our Basketball Boys

The boys bought their basketball warm-ups with their Christmas money...

Ready For the Big Game!

I don't think Amaya knows the definition of "shy!"

It's Wednesday! I have exactly one hour on Wednesday nights when the boys attend church youth group and Amaya is in bed. It's my time that I'm going to devote to the family blog!

We enjoyed our first weekend in a LONG time of staying at home and relaxing! It's definitely not near as much fun to watch other fan's football teams...but we spent a lot of time watching them.

Saturday morning was the boys' first basketball practice. Kevin is coaching their team this year and said that, "It was the equivalence of coaching Freshman girls basketball." Their first game is on Saturday and they are pumped! We'll see if Andrew can hit the basket this year...

I was able to be the Mystery Reader in Alex's Kindergarten class today. What a treat! I read If You Take a Mouse to School. It was priceless to see his face when he was able to uncover his eyes and see that it was me. He was "Friend of the Week" in his class...which meant lots of fun activities we were able to prepare over the weekend - interviews, a poster, scrapbook of memories, and show-n-tell. Kevin is planning to have lunch with him tomorrow. His teacher is so creative and does a wonderful job of making each student feel so important!

Santa Claus brought us a Wii this Christmas...so you can guess where we spend the majority of our evenings. This week the craze has been bowling tournaments. If only we could bowl 203s on a real lane!

We're in that pre-potty training mode with Amaya...you know, when you think of it once or twice a day and have her sit on the potty. Every once in a while we have success...but more often than not we're just practicing. Crazy to think that in a few months our house could be diaper free!

We are having a great time gearing up for the big game on Saturday. We'll be making cookies on Saturday morning to take to other equally excited Colt's fans and then getting together for pre-game fun with friends!

Christmas Eve....Our Family

Karen, Kevin, Alex, Andrew, and Amaya

It's a New Year...2010!

It's a new year! My resolution this year is to keep a better account of my family's memories by journaling and taking more photographs. So here goes...."Hedrick Happenings & Headlines" is my first go at keeping a family blog.

Our family....Kevin (31), Karen (31), Alex (6), Andrew (4), Amaya (1). There is never a dull moment at our house.

Kevin is the Residential Director for Lifeline Youth & Family Services. His main duty is to oversee the alternative school and residential facilities. He has been with Lifeline for six years and absolutely LOVES his job. In his spare time he loves to golf and occasionally plays basketball on a church league. He is getting ready to start coaching our sons' basketball league this winter. This could be the first of MANY coaching experiences between Daddy and the boys!

I went back to work this year as a 7th grade language arts teacher. This is my seventh year in public education, as I stayed home and worked part-time the last three years. I finished my language arts degree this past summer...and am SO happy that I did. I love teaching students how to facilitate a passion for reading and writing.

Alex is in Kindergarten at Little Turtle Elementary School in Columbia City. He loves going to school and absorbs new concepts like a sponge. He is beginning to read and loves math! Anytime we're in the car he'll ask us to give him math problems or tries to figure out words on billboards. He is also very much into sports now. This past summer was his second year in t-ball, he played soccer in the fall, and is now starting his second basketball season. He is also involved in Faithweaver Friends at our church on Wednesday nights. He keeps us very busy...and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Andrew is in Pre-School at Columbia City United Methodist Church. I really should just copy and paste everything I wrote about Alex. He is his big brother's shadow. He also loves school. This past year he played t-ball and soccer and is getting ready to start his first season of basketball. He is so excited that his dad is going to be his coach. Andrew's biggest passion is music. He is famous for his "concerts" that he performs for family, friends, and classmates. Right now his most entertaining song is "Big Green Tractor," which he air guitars and dances to. I'll try to post a video soon!

Amaya...where do I begin? Our baby girl is growing up. My-My...our nickname for her, is getting ready to turn TWO in February. I don't know where the time has gone. It seems that it was yesterday that Kevin yelled, "It's a girl!" This Christmas she received four baby dolls and all of the accessories she can handle. Everyday she feeds her babies, takes them for walks, and puts them to bed. She is quite the little "mommy." There is nothing quiet or patient about Amaya. Everything is, "I do," followed by a sweet, "Thank you." She keeps up with her brothers in every way imaginable. Her spirit, smile, and laughter are contagious. We can't wait to see her true personality...although we're pretty sure we're getting a good glimpse of it right now.

So, that is our crew in a nutshell. God has blessed our family repeatedly over the course of the last several years. Raising our three children and enjoying all of the blessings that family, friends, church, and work have to offer go beyond what words can express!
